Brooklyn Based Comedian

Dominique Nisperos

Dominique Nisperos is a comedian and sociologist who writes, performs, and gazes at the world from the Lenni Lenape and Canarsie land now called Brooklyn, New York. Her mission is to create comedy that uplift oppressed people, particularly women and people of color.

She is a Doctoral Candidate in Sociology at the City University of New York Graduate School and University Center, where she has been recognized as a Ford Foundation Fellow and received the Dean K. Harrison Award. She graduated with honors from the University of California at Berkeley with a bachelor’s degree in Ethnic Studies and Sociology, where she was also a Ronald E. McNair Scholar and a Center for Race and Gender Undergraduate Research Scholar.

She writes comedy with The Goss on theLitverse and the first all-women-identifying Upright Citizens Brigaged Theatre sketch team Grown Ass Women. She performed improvisational comedy with the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre’s Dang Jo Jo! and the all-people-of-color team The Code Switch: “A team of fiercely funny POC performers [who] improvise sketches based on the awkward moments and strange social negotiations of intersectional life” – Time Out New York. She also writes and performs with New York City’s longest-running independent sketch team Bridge and Tunnel.

She is the creator and host of Comedy for Justice a show that has raised money for Black Lives Matter, The Standing Rock Reservation, and other important social justice organizations. She has worked with or been featured on Blue Man Group, FunnyorDie, Scary Mommy,, TV Land, ABS-CBN Global, and at Toronto Sketch Fest, SF Sketch Fest, the LA Improv Festival, Steel Stacks Comedy Festival, and many venues across the United States and internationally.

She enjoys mixing high concept social theory with lowbrow humor. Her sensibilities are that of a pubescent 12-year-old boy who is also really into Audre Lorde. Her creative work is always fueled by her love of social justice and rooted in her experiences as a multiracial Chicanx and Filipino American girl changing up food stamps in Stockton.
